Staphylococcal prophage assemble their phage tails on a baseplate consisting of six distal baseplate hub-cap proteins. The tail tape measure protein is sequestered in the internal foramen of the hexamer and the capsid-proximal face of the baseplate nucleates major tail tube protein spiral polymerization. The serogroup F prophage tail spike protein attaches to the capsid-distal face of the baseplate hub-cap generating a mature phage tail.
