prmC (hemK) : peptide chain release factor glutamine N(5)-methyltransferase [1]
Ribosomal peptide release has not been extensively characterized in firmicutes and functions are therefore extrapolated from foundational studies in E. coli and pseudomonas. Peptide chain release factors require a post-translational modification, specifically glutamine methylation, to efficiently release new peptides from ribosomes at stop codons. PrmC recognizes the conserved "GGQ" motif of Release Factor 1 or Release Factor 2 and transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to the Release Factor's glutamine.
