tmcA : prophage type I addiction module noncoding RNA antitoxin TmcA [1]
Staphylococcal toxin-antitoxin systems provide a mechanism to rapidly alter growth rates under changing environmental stresses. TmcT is a DUF2829 (SA1803) family toxin thought to inhibit membrane translocation systems including type VII secretion systems, NorA pumps and monovalent cation antiporters resulting in bacteriostasis and persistence. It is sequestered by the RNA antitoxin TmcA. Although not often identified on initial annotations, TmcT is actually present in several prophage genomes including USA300_FPR3757. The TmcTA module appears to have integrated into a recombination hotspot distal to the prophage φ12-like mor regulator, replacing the n32 core sequence in: ACAAACA - n32 - ACAAACA
