Staphylococci have three systems to recycle undecaprenyl-phosphate from the extracellular leaflet of the membrane to the cytoplasm-facing leaflet. After dephosphorylation from undecaprenyl-pyrophosphate to undecaprenyl-phosphate, either polyprenyl-phosphate translocase or undecaprenyl-phosphate translocase can recycle UndP to the inner leaflet. This DedA-like translocase represents a third undecaprenyl-phosphate recycling system - it does contribute to UndP turnover but remains unnamed and is less well-characterized than the other two.
