dtpT : dipeptide and tripeptide:proton symporter [1] [2]

Staphylococci are able to take up short polymers of two or three amino acids from the environment for nutrition via the DtpT proton motive force-driven transporter. Larger oligopeptides (3-8 residue polymers) require transport by the opp3 oligopeptide permease system. DtpT is also able to contribute to transport of host glutathione and shows preferences for peptides containing aspartate or glutamate residues and against transporting peptides containing glutamine or tyrosine residues.
