mpfA - primary magnesium export protein [1]
Under conditions of magnesium excess, staphylococci can export magnesium via MpfA or MpfB. MpfA is the dominant constitutive exporter and required for growth in high magnesium conditions. MpfB is an auxiliary magnesium exporter and, as part of the SigmaB stress regulon, can increase the basal flux of magnesium out of the cell.
