bioY : energy-coupling factor transporter biotin-binding subunit BioY [1]

Staphylococci employ a variant of ABC transporters, the type 2 energy-coupling factor (ECF) transporters, to acquire trace nutrients. Three core subunits comprise a single, universal ATPase/transmembrane channel (EcfA-EcfA'-EcfT) while individual membrane-embedded substrate-binding subunits (EcfS) provide substrate specificity. BioY is an EcfS protein specific for the substrate biotin.
