mobA : molybdopterin-guanine dinucleotide biosynthesis guanylyltransferase [1]
MobAB functionalize molybdopterin cofactor (MoCo) with a GMP resulting in molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide cofactor (MGD). A second equivalent is frequently coordinated to the same molybdenum ion resulting in bis-molybdopterin-guanine dinucleotide cofactor (bis-MGD). MobA acts as the guanylyltransferase, catalyzing the transfer of GMP from GTP. The role of MobB is less clear with potential functions as a MobA stabilizing protein, a GTPase that provides the GMP for MobA to transfer to the MoCo substrate, or as a stabilization element to encourage formation of bis-MGD.
