bstA (dinB) : bacillithiol S-transferase [1]

• A crystal structure is available : 5WK0

The bacillithiol S-transferase enzyme (BstA) catalyzes the transfer of bacillithiol to free thiols. It has been characterized in the conjugation of bacillithiol to small molecule substrates, protecting the cell from antibiotics and other reactive compounds ; its role in protecting cellular proteins directly through bacillithiolation is unclear. Furthermore, highly electrophilic thiol substrates may be able to conjugate bacillithiol without BstA mediating the interaction.
