Staphylococcus aureus encodes two acetolactate decarboxylases. This version, BudA2, is the typical acid-labile version often associated with de novo branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis. While the typical nomenclature for this version is "budA" and the acidificiation bypass paralogue is "alsD", we are appending the "2" numeral here for additional clarity due to inconsistent nomenclature use in existing sequenced genomes.
