Several transfer RNAs require modifications to provide maximal fidelity during protein synthesis. QueG catalyzes the final modification on tRNA epoxyqueuosine(34) residues, reducing the epoxide to a carbon-carbon double bond and generating the final queuosine(34) nucleobase product. Staphylococcal tRNAs requiring this modification include: tRNAHGUG, tRNAYGUA, tRNANGUU, tRNADGUC.
