Several transfer RNAs require modifications to provide maximal fidelity during protein synthesis. QueA modifies tRNA preQ1(34) nucleobases (originally guanosine(34) nucleobases modified by tRNA guanosine(34) transglycosylase) with a ribosyl group originating from S-adenosylmethionine and then isomerizing that nucleobase into tRNA epoxyqueosine(34). Staphylococcal tRNAs requiring this modification include: tRNAHGUG, tRNAYGUA, tRNANGUU, tRNADGUC.
