rlmN : ribosome large subunit and tRNA methyltransferase N [1]

Ribosome large subunit and tRNA methyltransferase N (alt: 23S rRNA adenosine (2530)- and tRNA adenosine(37)-C(2)-methyltransferase) attaches a methyl group to the adenosine nucleobase 2-position of residue 2530 in 23S ribosomal RNA (S. aureus numbering; adenosine 2503 by E. coli numbering). RlmN is a dual-function enzyme and is also able to attach a methyl group to adenosine nucleobases at the anticodon loop-adjacent residue 37 of transfer RNAs. This modification enhances proofreading at the peptidyl transferase center (23S rRNA) and a more relaxed tRNA confirmation allowing for greater processivity.
