opp3D : oligopeptide ABC transporter ATP-binding subunit D [1]
The oligopeptide permease 3 (opp-3) system is the primary mechanism for staphylococcal uptake of amino acid polymers from 3 to 8 residues from the environment for nutrition. Its expression appears to be induced by tyrosine, although this induction can be competitively inhibited by phenylalanine. Intriguingly, deactivation of the opp-3 system can reduce expression of the staphylococcal extracellular proteases that ultimately provide the oligopeptide substrates for opp-3 transport.
